Ekadashi fast holds an important place in Hindu religion . Every year there are 24 Ekadashis. When Adhikamas or Malamas arrive, their number increases to 26. Parivartini Ekadashi is considered to be the most important Ekadashi fast of all. Charitable acts on Ekadashi are often dedicated to Lord Vishnu, as Ekadashi is considered one of His sacred days. Giving to the less fortunate is seen as an offering to the divine. It's important to note that while charity and acts of giving are emphasized on Ekadashi, the specific customs and traditions may vary among different regions and communities within Hinduism. Lord Vishnu goes into Yoga Nidra from Devshayani Ekadashi and on the Ekadashi of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha, he changes sides on his Sheshashaiya. The worship and fasting of this Ekadashi is considered especially fruitful.

Devshayani Ekadashi June 2023: All You Need to Know About Devshayani Ekadashi
Devshayani Ekadashi, also known as Ashadi Ekadashi or Padma Ekadashi, is a significant Hindu festival celebrated in India. Amongst all the Ekadashi’s the Devshayani Ekadashi is regarded as one of the most important ones.
According to the Hindu lunar calendar, there are two Ekadashis observed in each month. These Ekadashis are based on the phases of the moon: Shukla Paksha Ekadashi occurs on the eleventh day of the bright fortnight, precisely during the waxing phase of the moon. In contrast, Krishna Paksha Ekadashi occurs on the eleventh day of the dark fortnight, when the moon is in its waning phase.
Devshayani Ekadashi 2023 falls on Thursday, June 29th.
Devshayni Ekadashi Katha :
“Devshayani” in English means “the sleeping of the gods”. This festival marks the beginning of the Chaturmas period, which is considered an auspicious time for spiritual practices and devotion.
Devshayani Ekadashi has a history that is connected to Lord Vishnu, one of the major Hindu gods. According to Hindu mythology, during the four-month period of Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu is said to rest or slumber on a celestial bed known as Sheshnag (the serpent with a thousand heads). Devshayani Ekadashi marks the beginning of this period, which ends on Prabodhini Ekadashi.
The Bhavishyottara Purana, an ancient Hindu text, tells the tale behind Devshyani Ekadashi. The tale goes like this,
Once there lived a king name Mandhata, a noble and righteous king. Known for his purity, religiousness, and kindness towards his subjects, King Mandhata had been blessed with a prosperous kingdom. For centuries, his realm had been untouched by drought or any calamity.
However, fate took an unexpected turn, and a severe drought descended upon the kingdom, bringing with it immense suffering and despair. King Mandhata, deeply concerned for his people’s well-being, spared no effort in trying to alleviate their suffering. He conducted sacrificial rituals and religious ceremonies. Countless offerings were made but of no use.
Overwhelmed by the plight of his people and find a solution, King Mandhata embarked on a quest to seek guidance from a wise sage. During his journey, fate led him to the presence of Rishi Angira, a revered sage renowned for his deep knowledge and spiritual insights. Recognizing the anguish in the king’s eyes, the Rishi attentively listened to the King as he poured out his troubles. The Rishi explained that Devshayani Ekadashi marked the day when Lord Vishnu entered a divine slumber for a period of four months. He revealed that observing fast on this auspicious day had the power to please Lord Vishnu and bring an end to the drought.

Devshayani Ekadashi Fast Worship Method and Welfare Mantra
Learn how to worship and chant the mantra for this important Hindu festival
Devshayani Ekadashi is one of the most important Hindu festivals of the year. It marks the beginning of the four-month-long Chaturmas, a period of spiritual introspection and self-purification. During this time, many Hindus keep a strict fast and perform pujas and rituals.
The name Devshayani Ekadashi literally means "the eleventh day of the waxing moon when Vishnu sleeps." This is because on this day, Vishnu enters deep yogic sleep, known as yoga nidra. It is said that during this time he rests on Anant Shesha Nag, who floats on the cosmic ocean.

Ekadashi is the eleventh lunar day of the fortnight which occurs twice every month. One falls during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) and the other on the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon). There are 24 ekadashis in a year. The number goes up to 26 during the ‘Adhika maas’, extra month as per the Hindu calendar. Ekadashi that falls on the Ashadha month, the eleventh month according to the Hindu calendar is called as Devshayani Ekadashi. Today is Devshayani Ekadashi, ie 10 July 2022. Devshayani Ekadashi is also known as Ashadi Ekadashi, Padma Ekadashi, and Hari Shayani Ekadashi. What is Chaturmaas? Lord Vishnu falls asleep in the Kshir Sagar (the ocean of milk) on Shesha Naga (king of all nagas). Hence the day is called Shayani Ekadashi. He awakens from his deep sleep after four months on Prabodhini Ekadashi which falls in the Hindu month of Karthik coinciding with the Gregorian months of October or November. This period of four months is called Chaturmaas. ‘Chatur’ meaning ‘four’ and ‘maas’ means months. Why does Shri Vishnu go to sleep? On Devshayani Ekadashi, before Shravan Mass lord Vishnu Goes in Yog Nidra (Sleep), So Lord Shiva take care of the universe in his absence. That is also a reason why people worship lord Shiva in Shravan mass. In the rainy season, after Shri Vishnu sleeps for four months the annual pralaya takes place. The lord sleeps as he is tired of his work and needs a break. This pralaya is the time when the world gets a new life. The rishis are said to divide the year into two parts – the first from January to June and the second from July to December. During the second half of the year, the days are shorter and belongs to daityas (demons). Hence, it is the time when people observe more fasts, abstain from non-vegetarian food and alcohol, and celebrate festivals to seek the blessings of God and to keep up with good deeds. There are a number of festivals during these four months – starting with Nag Panchami, Krishna Janmashtami, Raksha Bandhan, Ganeshotsav, and Diwali. During Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped and this is also the time when Lord Vishnu wakes up from his sleep. After he wakes up, Lord Vishnu .#god https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf1sJcapJKB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

HINDU MONTH OF : AASHAD {aashad maas / aashada masam/aadi masam}
Ashadha - Ashadha is the 4th lunar month in Hindu calendar. In Hindu Calendar, there are two methods to mark the lunar month. In one, lunar month is marked from Purnima to Purnima (known as Purnimanta calendar) and in other lunar month is marked from Amavasya to Amavasya (known as Amanta calendar). AASHAD TIMELINE is usually from Mid july to Mid august
This is the monsoon season in India and the nature starts to throb again in life with the rain drops. The summer makes everything lifeless, whether it is the nature or the animal kingdom. With the first drops of the rain, everyone starts enjoying the monsoon season. So, this is the most important significance of ashada masam that it brings new life to the nature.
While Aashaada masam is considered as inauspicious for mundane activities, it is considered as sacred month for performing spiritual activities. Aashada, Karthika, Maagha and Vaisakha are regarded as spiritually important months in Hindu lunar calendar. Aashada masam is the month when the rains (monsoon) will start afresh and a number of creatures (living beings) will sprout on the earth. This month is said to be the appropriate period for sprouting of spiritual knowledge in the minds of human beings.
SHAKTI WORSHIP DURING AASHAD :
Aashad maas is specially dedicated to Mother Goddess Shakti - the universal feminine cosmic energy believed to be the source of all creation & destruction. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays are the most important days where grand pujas and rituals will be performed in almost all the hindu temples of the mother goddess. All Fridays, especially the 1st and 3rd Friday of Aashad are considered very auspicious.
LIST OF FESTIVALS CELEBRATED IN AASHAD MONTH
YOGINI EKADASHI- Yogini Ekadashi is one of the twenty four Ekadashi vrats which are observed to seek blessing of Lord Vishnu.
JAGANNATH RATHYATRA - Jagannath Rathyatra is a huge Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath held at Puri in the state of Orissa.
DEVSHAYANI EKADASHI - Devshayani Ekadashi is one of the twenty four Ekadashi vrats which are observed to seek blessing of Lord Vishnu.
GURU PURNIMA / VYASA PUJA - Guru Purnima is a festival traditionally celebrated by Hindus. On this day, disciples offer puja or pay respect to their Guru. Full Moon day in Aashaada masam known as Guru Pournima is celebrated across the country, symbolically honouring the Gurus and teachers who have taught us the Vidya. This day is also popularly referred to as Vyaasa Poornima associated with Lord Veda Vyaasa, the Divine Literary incarnation of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu. It is believed that Sri Veda Vyasa was born on this day of Pournami in the Lunar month of Aashaada. It is also said that it is the day on which Sri Veda Vyasa commenced his work on Brahma Sutras.
GAURI VRAT- Gauri Vrat is significant fasting period dedicated to Goddess Parvati. This Gauri Vrat is mainly observed in Gujarat.
JAYA PARVATI VRAT - Jayaparvati Vrat is significant fasting period dedicated to Goddess Jaya, a form of Goddess Parvati. Jayaparvati Vrat is mainly observed in Gujarat.
KOKILA VRAT - Kokila Vrat is dedicated to Goddess Sati and Lord Shiva. The name Kokila refers to Indian bird cuckoo and is associated with Goddess Sati.
SIGNIFICANCE & REASONS ~
Some believe that Lord Surya (Sun god) changes his direction from north to south in the Aadi month. The next six months from Aadi to Margazhi is symbolically the night time of the Devas (Dakshinayana punyakalam). Hence many auspicious events like marriage and house warming are not performed during the month. New ventures are not begun fearing failure to yield desired results. However, the real reason may be that such a practice was adopted just to help future generations focus on worship of Shakti and not be distracted by such events. This may have also been done to focus all efforts on the new agrIcultural season.
THE BRIDE SENT TO HER MATERNAL HOME :
There is also a popular custom of Newly weds not allowed to stay together. As this will be the hottest period in India and it will not be suitable for the health of the mother and child. Today, with modern medical facilities this particular custom is not strictly followed. In ancient times, in Ashada Masam, newly married couples were not allowed to stay together in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states of India. This was because if the woman conceived in Ashada Masam , then she will be giving birth in March or April or May the hottest months in South India. This is the hottest period in India and it is not suitable for the health of the mother and child. Since in ancient times there were no immediate medical facility, elders asked couples to stay apart. The prime reason was that sometimes it was not possible to contain bleeding in hot months. But a question arises, why this is done only for new couples. There is an explanation for this which goes that - , after first delivery, the lady will have experience of giving birth so she may not feel so difficult as her first delivery. Also, during the month of Aashad , there will be festivals for goddess shakti . So ladies keep fast abstaining themselves from being with partner t& maintain sancity up until they finish the fast ,even after years of marriage.
There are also many who believe that the daughter-in-law and the mother-in-law should not stay together in this month. However ,there is no astrological significance to this.
This year Aashad Maas /Aadi masam/ Aashada masam lasts as follows :
NORTHERN INDIA : JUNE 10th 2017 - JULY 9th 2017 SOUTHERN INDIA : JUNE 24th 2017 TO JULY 23rd 2017
THE FULL CALENDER OF Aashad month will be posted soon on our Facebook page dedicated to Mother Goddess .Click here - OM SHAKTI - Om Krim Kali

Chaturmas 2017: Know About The Importance & Rituals Of This Festival
The Dates And Other Facts About Chaturmas
In the year 2017, Chaturmas begins on July 4 and gets over on October 31.
Chaturmas Festival is seen in a very high regard by the Hindu and Jain traditions. It begins in the Shukla Paksh of Ashadh month and continues till Shukla Paksh of Kartik month. This holy period is used by Karmayogis to develop their skills. Religious people undertake prayer and fasting while Yogis and Ascetics try to make their life good and useful for others, during this period.
According to the tradition, Lord Vishnu goes into Yog Nidra on the enchanting Ksheer Sagar lake during this period. That is the reason why the Ekadashi which falls in the beginning of Chaturmas is called Devshayani Ekadashi. The Ekadashi at the end of Chaturmas is known as Dev Uthani Ekadashi as it is the time for Lord Vishnu to come out of the sleep. As Lord Vishnu is asleep during these four months, so people avoid undertaking any religious or auspicious activity during this period.
The Conditions During Chaturmas Help One Focus On God
Nature puts on a very different condition during Chaturmas as it is the time of rains. The environment seems very enchanting and enjoyable. The atmosphere is beautiful, cool and full of peace. So, it's the best time to focus our mind on God. Other programmes have been prohibited during this period so that people do not lose their focus on God. A lot of stress is given on following proper rules while consuming food and on undertaking fasts during the four months of Chaturmas i.e. Savan, Bhadon, Ashwin and Kartik. It is believed that during Chaturmas, the digestive ability of people becomes weak, so one should keep fasts more frequently.
It is all the more important to fast on the Ekadashi days which fall during Chaturmas. If it's not possible to fast on all the Ekadashis during this period, one should at least fast (stay without food and water) on three Ekadashis: Devshayani, Jaljilani and Dev Uthani. All the fast and rituals are meant to increase our happiness. One of the factors for happiness is the progress in our career. Well, you can improve your career situation by knowing the future. Buy the Career Prospects Report and brighten your career.
The Importance Of Chaturmas
Usually, the Yogis and Ascetics get involved into propagating religious ideals and ethics during this period. During Chaturmas, small living creatures like insects, bacteria, etc become active and frequent the surroundings. Many creatures living inside the Earth also come out. So, the Saints and Yogis fear that if they accidentally tread on these creatures, they may get killed which will violate their Ahimsa (non-violence) vow. That is the reason why religious preachers do not roam about in these four months. They stay at one place and impart religion and ethics to the people. In ancient and medieval times, when agriculture was much more important, people were prohibited to do any activity other than sowing of seeds. This way they could carry forward their spiritual development as well apart from undertaking the material pursuits. Ideally, there should be a balance between material wants and spiritual pursuits. So, we need progress in business also as it provides us our bread and butter. If you want to surge in business, get the Free 2017 Business Report, know your future and get success.
Chaturmas From The Perspective Of Ayurveda
The period of Chaturmas is very good even from an Ayurvedic perspective. Sprouted grains and such stuff is preferably consumed during these four months. After the rains in Bhadon, usually humidity increases. During this phase, if one consumes curd then he/she can face health issues of the digestive system. That is why curd has been prohibited during this time. Besides, there are chances of health problems if one consumes milk during Ashadh. Ayurveda also believes consuming pulses (dal) during Kartik month may cause problems. That is why the consumption of curd and pulses has been prohibited during these months.
Various festivals dot the four months of Chaturmas. There is also the Pitra Tarpan in Bhadon and Navratri Puja and rituals during Ashadh. These festivals help us in maintaining our mental & spiritual balance and also developing our health.
